This week was FULL of FALL FUN! From painting pumpkins to jumping in leaves, to Michigan football and fun with extended family this was a pretty good week...
|
On Monday night, Avery received a letter in the mail. It was an adorable little note from cousin Caleb hoping that he enjoyed his birthday and is having fun with his new presents.
On Tuesday night, we enjoyed a family night out at Culver's for $2.99 kid's meals and free pumpkin painting. Since it was super busy, we ended up eating our dinner outside but thankfully it was fairly warm out. When dinner was over, we headed inside so that each boy could pick a gourd and decorate it. Then we headed back home to enjoy our take-home sundaes and some Halloween cartoon specials on TV.

Ever since Avery's birthday, his favorite song is Happy Birthday. At night, he wants me to sing him a song and I will make suggestions. Almost every time I get a "no" on every song I throw out until I land on Happy Birthday. He loves it and he loves to sing along with me.

Thursday night, Eric had to work later, so the boys and I enjoyed some snuggles together reading in bed.
On Friday, we loaded up the van and then headed to Lower Michigan for some more fall fun. We arrived at Grammy and Gramps house late in the afternoon with time to enjoy a little fun outside, a yummy dinner, coloring with Gramps and a pre-bed Hot Tub Party.

On Saturday, we woke up bright and early, enjoyed some breakfast and then headed to Ann Arbor so that Eric and I could go to the Homecoming Michigan Football game while the boys had a fun day playing with their cousins Emmett and Olive. Along the way, we stopped in Saline to visit Great Grandma Smiley.

We were both freezing (I had on a long sleeve shirt, 2 sweatshirts and a jacket but the wind still cut right through) but it was the best date we've been on in a long time!

When the game was over, Eric and I walked back to his sister's house and got the boys. Then we headed back to Coldwater with a quick stop along the way to pick up some dinner (for us). Neither of the boys had had a nap that day and were obviously both exhausted. Avery was rubbing his eyes and passed out in the van almost immediately. Asher was a different story. He was a total mess. He started crying because he said he had a bite of some sort on his face. We tried everything we could to get him to stop, but he was inconsolable. Finally, I broke out our first aid kit in the car and gave him the instant ice pack to put on it. Unfortunately the pack didn't work and barely got cold, but having something to put on it calmed him down enough to stop crying and then soon after he was fast asleep in the car. The boys slept the rest of the way home and we feared that they would wake up when we got them ready for bed. Instead, Avery and Asher both barely woke when we changed them into their diaper and pull-up. As soon as I changed Avery's diaper, he just rolled over in the bed, so I let him sleep in his shirt and diaper and just covered him up. They both passed right back out and slept the night away.

On Sunday, rather than headed back to Wisconsin, we extended our fall weekend and enjoyed a long lazy day at the cottage. It was a beautiful sunny day (almost 70 degrees) which allowed us to enjoy the last boat ride of the year (including the last ice cream of the year) and lots of fun outside.

After a wonderful day outside, we enjoyed a delicious rib dinner, another pre-bed hot tub party and then some tasty apple pie that Grammy made before heading up to bed.

Avery was very interested in Grammy's pie and came to "help" her serve it.
On Monday, it was time for our fall family weekend to draw to a close. We had a great weekend, but it was time to head home. We packed up the van once again, enjoyed a little morning playtime and then headed back to Kenosha.
It's a sure sign of a great day when you can successfully transfer sleeping kids and change them!
