Now that we have kids, the week between Christmas and New Years tends to be a pretty low key week of family time. Since our daycare is closed, Eric and I are forced to take extra time off from work to care for them, which means that between Christmas and New Years I only worked one day and Eric worked a half day...the rest of the week was spent enjoying each other at home and having a little New Year's fun with friends.
On Tuesday evening, we arrived home after our long weekend in Michigan to find the ground covered in icy snow. Since we our Christmas this year was brown rather than white, the boys were both quite excited to play in the snow. Asher immediately bundled up and went outside to help daddy shovel while I worked on unloading the van and putting things away. Soon after though, I realized that Avery might also want to go outside with the big boys when I turned around to find that he had been following me around the house holding his jacket in one hand and his hat in the other. So, I happily obliged and bundled up the little man to join his daddy and brother outside.

The next day was Wednesday day and it was my day to work. I spent the day missing my boys while they stayed home playing together. At one point later in the morning, I received a text from Eric saying that they had all gone sledding down at our park and Avery had taken a spill scratching up his cheek. I imagined a few little scratches, but then at lunch I received a video of my boys saying Hi (or Ahhhhhye in Avery's terms) and realized that most of Avery's right check was scraped off! :( Oh well, Eric said he cried for about a minute and then wanted to get back on the sled!

Thursday was my turn to stay home with the boys, but only for the morning because it was also New Year's Eve. We played the morning way, napped and then in the late afternoon the Laillet and Petersen families came over to celebrate the New Year with us. It was a fun night of pizza and visiting with our friends and a great low-key way to close out 2015.

As the night went on (and by 'night' I mean 8pm), I could tell Avery wasn't feeling good (kid can't make it through a holiday without getting sick). He snuggled up on my lap and quickly passed out. We spent a little more time talking and then it was time to get all the kiddos (& adults) home and in bed. Before everyone left, we grabbed a few quick pictures of all the kids together and then said good night to say hello to 2016.

By 9pm on New Year's Eve, our entire family was asleep in bed. We got a good night of rest and then had three more days to enjoy at home relaxing together.

Thanks for sharing, Tracy! I loved all the pics and commentary to go with them. I'm sorry about Avery's cheek. I think I'd still be crying! :) Happy New year!
