Michigan Adventure Day 5: Mouse Trap & Call of the Wild

Day five (Wednesday) was a dreary day, but that didn't stop us from having fun.  Originally, we had made plans with some good friends that live near Gaylord to get together at the cottage and catch up while the kids played down at the lake, but when we woke up that morning to the sound of heavy rain we knew the original plan for swimming, sunshine and sandcastles would have to be modified.  We went back and forth with our friends (the Smiths) on what we should do but in the end decided to have them still come to out to GG Smiley's.  We would have fun Rain or Shine!

When Beth and Matt arrived with their sons Elliot & Lewis in the late morning the rain was still coming down hard.  Thus, after a quick tour of the cottage, we settled into the dining area near the game cabinet to visit and let the kids find some fun games and toys to play with.  Before long the notorious Mouse Trap game was on the table and everyone was concentrating hard on trying to remember how to put it together and then attempting to actually have a successful run with it from start to finish.  It took us a while, but eventually we were able to see it set off the trap and catch the mouse!

Eventually, the rain died off enough that we could go outside even though it never really stopped.  Beth and I remained inside for a while to visit while all the guys played down by the lake.  Before long, Avery came in completely soaked (good job Daddy & Matt) and all of the boys were asking for their swimsuits.  So, with no more thunder or lighting in the area the boys happily played in the lake despite the rain.

When the boys' lips were completely blue and they couldn't control their teeth from chattering any longer, they came out from the lake and warmed up at the fire where we made pizza pudgie pies for lunch to go with fruit, salad, cookies and chocolate milk.  Then we enjoyed a little more time to visit and play before it was time to say our goodbyes and head inside for some much-needed, rainy-afternoon naps.

The best place to be on a rainy day is in bed.  Naps in a cozy bed with the sound of rain drops on the roof above provide the best rest available.  Everyone enjoyed the rest and Eric and I were able to sleep and still wake up long before the boys to enjoy some kid-free time as well.  I spent my time doing some things on my computer and savoring my dark chocolate Yooper Bar.  Yum!

When the boys woke up from their naps, we headed into town with Eric's parents to continue the Migrin family tradition of visiting the Call of the Wild in Gaylord.  There, the boys enjoyed a scavenger hunt as we looked at and learned about all of the animals (taxidermied) on display.

After our tour of Call of the Wild and picking out some souvenir T-Shirts for the boys and some fudge for us, we enjoyed a delicious Mexican dinner in town and then headed back to GG Smiley's cottage to close out our 5th day of adventure.
