A Team Week 188: Emma Turn's 10!

With two sick little boys this week didn't exactly start out great, but it did end on a positive note as we celebrated our baby girl's 10th birthday!

On Monday a very busy week began.  I had a project that needed to get finished and unfortunately also had two sick little guys that couldn't go to school and daycare.  Since Eric had a meeting on Monday and I had one Tuesday, I took Monday off with hopes to get some work done at home.  In order to do so though, I first had to take the boys into work to get a few things.

We headed to my office where the boys "worked" at my desk for a few minutes while I answered a few emails, printed some drawings and got a few other things together.  Then we headed back home.  As soon as we arrived home, I set the boys up with a movie downstairs and then headed up to our office to work.  I settled in at my desk, got all of my papers together and then as I went to start using my computer I realized I had not downloaded my software key at work which meant that I actually could not do anything!  :(  At that point, I guess you could say I was pretty frustrated, but there was little I could do other than try to make the most of a free day to spend with my boys...

FB Post: So both boys are sick...for the ? time this year (so many I’ve lost count). I have a busy week at work and took them in with me to get some things to work from home. Got home to work and realized that I forgot my software key so I can’t actually do anything (although I think Asher is convinced I just play Minesweeper all day anyway). It just so happens that today is national cherry cheesecake day so anyone that wants to drop by with these beauties won’t be turned away! 😂 https://instagram.com/p/Bh6pdLDlTDj/

When lunchtime came, I needed a little bit of a pick-me-up and also needed something more exciting than the BRAT diet the boys had been on.  Since they seemed to be feeling better I decided to "splurge" and make a frozen pizza for lunch.  Neither of them ate very much of it, but I was thrilled to have something other than soup, toast, bananas and applesauce!

As the afternoon pressed on, I attempted to get as much done at home as possible since I couldn't do any actual work.  Thankfully, the boys were fairly content building forts and playing on their own despite fevers and a little irritability.

The next day I went back to work while Eric stayed home with the boys.  It was a hectic day and even my computer wasn't quite up to the task.  In some sick way though I did win the lottery as the boys actually got worse that day before getting better.  Just minutes after I left that morning I got a text that Avery had projectile vomited all over our office, so even though work was a bit crazy I was somewhat thankful to be there instead of home.

By the time the afternoon came on Tuesday both of the boys were doing much better.  Their fevers were gone and no one had thrown up since that one time in the morning.  Since everyone was getting a little stir crazy, they headed to Meijer for a bit to kill some time until I came home from work.

On Wednesday the boys were finally healthy enough again for life to go back to norm.  Avery was his silly self, Asher was our creative little builder and they both played and fought again like the brothers they are.

Asher wanted to help Avery get dressed for bedtime.  Now we just need him to learn to brush teeth and read bedtime stories and we are all set

When the weekend arrived, we finished out the week by enjoying some fun events including Asher's school's first ever talent show and Emma's 10th birthday.

On Friday night and his classmates performed Fight Song for everyone to see.  They did great and I was proud to see how focused he was and how far he has come since that very first audition!

On Saturday, I also got a performance from Avery (with the help of Asher) who put on a puppet show for me.  It was QUITE entertaining! :P

Another highlight of the weekend included more family fun with Alexa as Eric realized that she will now give a prescribed answer to any question you define for her:

Saturday's Facebook Post:
A new level of parenting:
Yesterday Eric discovered that you can now tell Alexa the answer that you want her to give to any question. Today I discovered some purple marker on my cream colored sofa. I asked the boys how it got there knowing exactly who the culprit was. When no one wanted to fess up to it Eric programmed the answer via his phone and then told the boys that there is another set of eyes in the house so they better tell the truth. Then he asked, “Alexa, who got purple marker on the couch?” Her response, “I saw Avery do it.” I literally had to cover my face to hide my silent laughter. 😂😂😂
My dad’s attempt to convince my brother and I that he was going to order a spanking machine has come full circle!

This fun continued as Eric programmed Alexa with the answers to several family favorite jokes...

Finally, as I mentioned above, the week ended with Emma's 10th birthday.  It is hard to believe it has already been 10 years since we first laid eyes on our little fur baby.  We spent the day celebrating, spoiling and loving on her.  I even posted a birthday wish for her on the Westie Facebook Group I belong to and I have never before received so many likes and comments from one post.  Emma is and likely forever-will-be the most popular post I have ever made!  I even saved a few of the birthday wishes she received back, but with well over 300 there quickly were too many to keep track of!

Emma's birthday celebrations started off with the boys giving her her birthday present which Avery had picked out.  It was a purple pig that was the same as the red pig Avery got for his birthday from Grammy and Gramps that Emma wishes was hers.  She loved it.

In addition to Emma's purple pig, Asher also made a couple of birthday presents for her.  The first present was engineering his Snap Circuits to play her Happy Birthday, which I thought was quite thoughtful of him...

...his second gift for her was a Lego box that he made and filled with dog treats.

That afternoon, we went out for lunch after church and then headed to the pet store next door to see if we could find another birthday treat for Emma.  We found a cute dog-bone birthday cookie which the boys excitedly presented her with as soon as we returned home.

Finally, later in the day we took Emma for a nice walk where she got to sniff a bunch of things and lay in the sunshine while the boys played for a while at a nearby park.

When the day was all said and done it turned out to be a great finish to what started as a rough week.  Our fur baby was happy and exhausted...the signs of a great birthday. :)
