Hazel: 3 Months Old

Three months have come and gone already!  I am so behind in my documentation, but doing my best to catch up while also not being swallowed by the black hole of life responsibilities.  Hazel continues to warm our hearts and stretch our smiles with every passing day.  She is a happy baby who's gummy smiles bring so much joy to our entire family.  She is not afraid to tell us when she needs or wants something, but continues to be a ray of sunshine with little fussiness.  The only thing that will make her really cry is a large gas bubble, which will sometimes make her scream bloody murder or if she gets bumped or frightened by something.

Along with her adorable smile, Hazel also started to laugh at the end of her third month.  She still doesn't laugh a ton, but oddly it seems that the things that make her laugh the most are odd sounds and things that startle her.  For example, the first two times that she really giggled a lot were at Asher coughing and Avery saying "ding".

In addition to her laugh, Hazel is also getting better control of her arms and hands and almost always has a few fingers in her mouth.  She doesn't get a lot of tummy time because we fear she will be trampled on the floor, but she is a pro at holding up her head and also has the strength to stand for several minutes at a time...if only she had the balance to go along with it.

Her hair continues to grow and sticks up in all directions.  It is also getting lighter and lighter as time goes on and we are curious to see what it will look like after the summer sunshine.

Sleep-wise, she definitely has room for improvement.  We had hoped that daycare would tire her out enough to help her sleep through the night, but if anything it seems to have made it worse.  She really fights sleep while she is there as she always wants to be in on the action, so I think that she gets over tired and then has a harder time sleeping at night.  She also struggled with the bottle for her first few weeks at daycare, taking only 2 or 3 ounces a day and making her incredibly hungry and ready to nurse when she was home with me.

Hazel loves it when I sing to her and will shine her big gummy smile or even sometimes try to sing along.  She also loves "Kick & Punch" time with Daddy and the silliness of her big brothers who continue to adore her.

This month Hazel gained 1 pound and grew 1/4", placing her at 13 pounds, 10 ounces and 23.75" tall.  Her head circumference also grew a 1/2" making it 16". This makes her 2 pounds lighter than Asher and 2.8 lighter than Avery and about an inch shorter than both of them at the same age.

So that is baby girl at three months.  Fingers crossed that I can post about her at 4 months before the month passes!  ;)
