Meet Me In St. Louis Day 1.2: Out on the Town

After we had gotten settled into our hotel and took advantage of Snack 30 (aka hotel happy hour/snack time) we headed out on the town to get a quick tour of the sites before dinner...

Couldn't help but take this photo for our niece Olive.

Eric and I were very interested in how they were delicately demolishing the building sandwiched tightly between two other buildings.

Our first sight of the Gateway Arch (not on the train).

We met this horse.  He was huge and he was appropriately named Tank.  :)

The end point of our walk was the Gateway Arch.  It was already closed for the day, but we were still able to check out the outside of the monument and then check out the adjacent Mississippi River.

Eric and Asher racing down to the river.

The boys wanted to touch the river.  I was a bit horrified of this as the water was filthy, but I let them do so nonetheless.

Yuck!

The river was at flood stage so there was a lot of debris in it, making it look even more disgusting. :(

Avery saw this sculpture down by the river and insisted that we get some pictures with it.  I never say no to pictures! :P

Notice the brick walkway below this sculpture and the sculpture's base...

NPR posted this picture of the exact same sculpture one week after we visited.  The river had risen about another 2 feet since we'd been there!

When our tour of the arch's exterior was over we headed back toward the hotel.  There we enjoyed a BBQ dinner at a restaurant called Sugarfire on the ground floor of our hotel.  It was pretty yummy food with GIGANTIC portions and fries that reminded me of the fair (yum!) and I couldn't help but think that the restaurant's name would be a great nickname for Avery: a little sweet Sugar mixed with some Fiery sass! ;P

My Philly Cheesesteak was enormous!

Finally, once we were thoroughly stuffed with dinner, we headed into our hotel and up to our room to rest up for day two of our St. Louis getaway.

Baby Bed Hog

The boys shared a queen size pull-out bed but still ended up right next to each other.
