On day 3 of our mini vacation to St. Louis we started the morning off again with some cuddles and the hotel breakfast. Then we hopped onto the MetroLink and headed to the St. Louis Zoo.

The St. Louis Zoo is free (which is pretty awesome). However, in accordance with my vacation character flaw of trying to squeeze too much into a short amount of time I thought we should get the Adventure Passes to allow us to do the extra items such as the train ride (which I thought we could use to get around the zoo), the Carousel, the Petting Zoo, etc. This turned out to be a bad idea since we only had about 5 hours that we could spend there and we spent the majority of that time taking the boys to the bathroom and feeding the kids lunch and snacks. Of the eight things we could do with the Adventure Pass we only got around to doing two of them, so I had to just chalk it up as a donation to the zoo. On the plus side though, the boys did both enjoy the two things we did get to do: the petting zoo (where they got to pet some bunnies, goats and a few others) and the Stingray pool (where they got to pet stingrays and some small sharks). The latter of which they probably would have been happy doing all day long...they loved it!
All that said, we did our best to see as much as we could and enjoy the day. I will (sadly) admit that I think I would have enjoyed the day more if it could have just been Avery with us. He was in awe of the animals and having a total blast. Hazel was fine all day but took up a lot of my attention and Asher was a tired, grumpy mess for the day making him not so much fun to be around....but that is parenting. We love them in all forms! ;)

| An ant colony. To me, this was one of the most interesting things at the zoo. They just kept walking along carrying their leaves and working hard. |

After I had gotten to see the penguins (always a fav of mine) it was time to rush out. We quickly stopped by the bears as we passed and then left the zoo to catch the bus to the MetroLink to the Gateway Arch for our pre-paid tour time.
Unfortunately as we exited the zoo, the bus left and we had to wait another half an hour for the next one. It was a little stressful as everyone was hot and tired, but we passed the time sitting in the grass and picking flowers in the grass. Eventually it came and we made our way to the Arch, making it with only a few minutes to spare, but more on that next time...
