The A Team Week 25: Turning a Corner

This week we turned a corner in two major areas of our life.

First, Avery began sleeping through the night!!!  Maybe it was the fact that he cut two more teeth (the upper middles) on the Saturday before this week started, providing a lull in the teething process.  Or, maybe it was the fact that he is now eating solids and has a little more food in his belly at bed time...whatever the reason, all that matters to me is the fact that Avery sleeping through the night means this Momma is sleeping through the night...WooHoo!!  ...as a side note though, with extra sleep comes some weird (and I mean WEIRD) dreams: flushing clones down the toilet, making architectural models out of Rice Krispie treats, etc.
My little man gets MESSY when it's dinnertime these days!  ...he LOVES to "help"

The other corner that we turned was the end of Winter and arrival of Spring!!  Well, that wasn't the case according to the calendar, but according to the week's outside temperatures that seemed to be the case, and we loved it!  We spent as much time this week enjoying the fresh almost-Spring air as we could, knowing full-well that Winter would likely make another appearance before it was officially done for the year (which it did just yesterday), but wanting to make the most of the opportunity while we had it!

Monday: Joe the Snowman took a major hit this week.  Asher was sad to see him go, but I would have to admit that watching him whither away made me smile inside! :)
By Wednesday, Joe was almost gone.
Asher tried to ride his sand-truck in the snow...didn't work out so well.  (Yes I took a picture before helping him up....Mother of the Year Award goes to me again!)  ;)

Asher beating on Joe..He wasn't happy to see him go, but when I gave him a branch to smack Joe with, he didn't question it.
Avery & I enjoying a "Spring" nap in the sunshine through my bedroom window.  He took almost a two hour nap today which is basically unheard of...he did require that I let him snuggle with me while he slept, but how do you say no to that?

On Wednesday afternoon, I surprised Asher by taking him out to enjoy splashing in the puddles (which due to the melting snow were EVERYWHERE!).  We walked down the sidewalk and when we came to the first "muddle" (what he calls a mud puddle) I stepped in it with my boots and gave a little splash and a jump.  He looked at me with a look of astonishment, curiosity and permission-request and when I encouraged him to step in to, he immediately got a big smile!  We continued our walk down to the park at the end of the street where we found some gigantic muddles and had a great time getting wet and filthy together.  On our walk home, I could hear the water that had splashed into his rain boots sloshing around and as soon as we got into the house I stripped him down and gave him a warm bath to take the chill (& the dirt) off.

This muddle was more mud than puddle.  After getting stuck in the mud and having to be rescued by me, even Asher didn't want to play here.

After we were done jumping in the muddles we walked over to the park for the first time this year before heading home.  It was covered in mud and snow, but that didn't stop Asher from enjoying himself.

On Friday night, we enjoyed the warmer temperatures again by spending some time at the park downtown and then getting our first taste of Big Star for the 2015 season.

Eric & the boys at Big Star
On Saturday, our Spring fever continued as we tried to enjoy the weather while it lasted.  Eric had an idea that he wanted to build a birdhouse with Asher and after nap time the idea was set into action.  I watched (admittedly slightly terrified) as Asher helped Daddy measure, cut, drill, glue and nail the pieces of the birdhouse together and despite the worries of something terrible happening, I knew that my little man was bonding and making great memories with his Daddy and best bud.  (& FYI: Eric was on top of making sure that they were as safe as possible with all power tools and that he taught Asher the proper way to handle them.)

This picture is too funny!

Can you see why Eric is smiling?

Avery & I went on a grocery adventure while the big boys worked on their birdhouse.

That evening, since the weather was still nice AND it was Pi Day, we finished the day off with pudgie pies (or pie irons to the Migrin clan) over a backyard bonfire.  For the main course we enjoyed hot ham and cheese sandwiches with side dishes of grapes, veggies and watermelon, and for dessert we ate some yummy cherry pudgie pie sandwiches-YUMMY!

Asher was pretty happy that watermelon season is coming back...one of his all-time favorites!

Based on the amount of cherry on Asher's face, I'm not sure if any of the pie actually made it into his belly!

Finally, on Sunday we rounded out the week still looking forward to the warmer seasons, even though the cooler temperatures started creeping back.
Asher conflicted between winter & summer: Nothing like jammies with a swim vest and winter hat?

So, that was our week of turning corners as Avery and I enjoyed more sleep and we all enjoyed the light at the end of the winter tunnel.  Beyond those items though, there were a few more fun moments that we enjoyed...

Playing together on our Wednesday off...you know you have a good toy when your kids still wants to play with it over a year after getting it.

Playing with our friends at Wednesday IBC Playgroup

Finally starting to learn to play & entertain himself (well as long as mommy doesn't walk by that is)

Finally, there was one other corner turned... Avery's got his first haircut!!  At five months old, our little man was looking REALLY shaggy, so a friend of ours from church came over to give him a new do.  He didn't cry and was quite good considering, but keeping him from wiggling or getting his fingers up by the scissors was quite a challenge for both Heidi and I.  I will admit that I was sad to give him his first haircut at such a young age, but he really needed it and it looks so much better now...though I did have a hard time (& am still having a hard time) getting used to how much older he looks now!  My little boy is growing up way to quick!
