Toddler Tales Week 10: Asher Loves His Watermelon

Last week Asher turned 14 months.  For the first time in his life, I forgot to take his monthly pictures on that day.  I brought what I needed to take them to the cottage with full intentions to do so, but with everything going on I forgot until after Asher was in bed.  Eventually, this week I did get around to taking some quick pictures...

At 14 months old, Asher is a happy, playful, silly little boy (whom I ABSOLUTELY adore).  He is around 25 pounds and as of his 14 month birthday he still had 8 teeth (he just got a molar this week and I believe is working on more).  His eyes are still bright blue and his hair his full of beautiful curls.  He has the stinkiest feet of any toddler that I've ever met (that I've smelled the feet of many children).  He loves to talk, but has limited actual words that he uses.  Of those, Dada and ball are his favorites.  He is a busy-body and although he loves to give hugs, he is no longer a snuggler.  He loves to eat and often eats as-much or more than I do.  When he gets full, he likes to feed his furry little sister.  His favorite toys include his trucks and anything round that works as a ball.  He enjoys to play peek-a-boo and when you say "snuggle with the pillow" he runs and drops his head unto the nearby pillow (usually his large owl pillow).  He loves to laugh and make you laugh and especially loves to play with his daddy!

Asher never really used the bumbo chair as a baby, but it has been used more lately.  Besides being worn as hat (as shown here), Asher now likes to get in and out of it himself...even though he barely fits.

Asher likes Daddy to wear the chair, but isn't so thrilled about the fashion statement on his own head.

At the end of this week (Saturday), we had our annual neighborhood block party.  All of our (interested) neighbors gathered together for dinner and fellowship in the street.

What kid doesn't enjoy an opportunity to run in the street?
This was Asher's second block party and like last year, he was the hit of the night.  Most of the people on our street are older, so they thoroughly enjoyed watching a "little one" play and eat.  They especially were entertained by Asher's love for watermelon.  I've known ever since the first time I gave him watermelon that it was a hit and Asher and I have been enjoying eating it together all summer long.  When I made a plate of food for him this particular evening, he wasn't that interested in eating and mostly just moved it around his tray.  When he seemed like he would touch the food I had given him anymore I went and got him some watermelon (I waited because I knew he wouldn't eat everything else if I gave that to him right away).  I was about to cut it up for him when Eric suggested that I give him the entire piece since we were outside and making a mess wasn't an issue.  I did so and Asher was thrilled.  He went to work on his watermelon slice and quickly had it devoured.  When he got down to the rhine, I took it away and he was NOT happy.  He began to scream/cry as I walked to the table to get another slice.  Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at him.  As soon as I gave him the new slice, he immediately stopped crying and began to devour the second piece.  Everyone laughed.  This happened three times, until I decided that he'd had enough watermelon for the evening and had to distract him with something to get him to stop crying.  Enjoy the pictures/video of Asher with his beloved watermelon...
