2017 Winter Getaway Day 6: Theater of the Sea

Monday was our last full day in Key Largo and it was another cooler, very windy day with rain threatening.  So, after a little bit of time at the pool, we headed to the Theater of the Sea to enjoy some marine life animals!
Cloudy "Sunrise"

Our first stop at Theater of the Sea was the Sea Turtle Exhibit.  Shortly after we got there, I was helping one of the boys when my prescription sunglasses fell off of my head and into the turtle pond!  Eric had to fetch a worker to come and get them for me.  Oops.

This turtle was born with a deformity that kept his shell from giving him the correct buoyancy, so he had a special jacket that helped him to float and swim.

From the Sea Turtle Exhibit, we continued on the Guided Marinelife Tour to the Sport & Game Fish and Tropical Reef Fish Exhibits.

"Oooooo Barr-a-cuda!"
Next stop was the Crocodilians Exhibit featuring two American Alligators and one Cuban-American Crocodile.

After seeing the Crocodilians, we headed next door to the Nurse Shark Exhibit.

From the Nurse Shark Exhibit, we watched the beginning of the Trained Parrot Show before leaving to get some lunch due to our hangry boys.

After chowing down on some hot dogs, we headed to the Dolphin Show.  Anyone that knew me growing up knows that I was a HUGE fan of dolphins growing up and would learn and collect things about them whenever I could.  I am no longer quite as dolphin crazy, but still love them and couldn't wait to see the show with the boys.  They didn't let me down, they LOVED the show!  Specifically, watching Avery watch the dolphins was almost more enjoyable than watching the dolphins themselves!

Absolutely LOVING the show!

When the Dolphin Show was over, we went to watch the Sea Lion Show

I ALWAYS have my eyes closed in pictures!  :(

After the Sea Lion show we waited in line for our last tour: The Bottomless Boat Ride & Nature Tour.  On this we got to go for a short boat ride through the lagoon where the dolphins swam up to us to show off a bit.  Then we continued on a walk on boardwalks through the lagoon to learn about the mangroves and then stop off at the beach to feed the fish.  The boys loved that the dolphins came so close to us!

Finally, our time at the Theater of the Sea was ready to come to a close and the boys (well all of us) were ready for naps.  We made our way out of the park, stopping briefly along the way to see a few of the animals one last time.

A baby sea lion and his mama.

Couldn't resist a picture of the Giant Lobster on our way back to the hotel!
After naps, we finished the day off with our last dinner in Key Largo at the Big Chill again (finding restaurants that have more selection than sea food was difficult).
