Tuesday was our last day of vacation before heading back to Wisconsin, which meant we had to say goodbye to Key Largo and our hotel and head back to Ft. Lauderdale to catch our flight the next morning. Thus, today was a day of travel but we made the most of it with some fun stops along the way.
Like every other day this week, I woke much earlier than I would have liked but tried to take advantage of it by getting a good sunrise picture...and like every other day this week it was a cloudy sunrise.
The night before, we worked to get as much packed up as possible so that the boys could have a little more time doing what they liked best: playing in the pool and on the beach.

Finally, it was nearing time for us to check out of the hotel and get on the road. We had a great time at Ocean Pointe Suites but we were on to the next part of our adventure. Everyone was a little sad to leave, but all good things must come to end, right? Before we left the beach though we did make sure to get a family photo together.

Once we had loaded up the van and checked out we made our way up to Ft. Lauderdale, stopping at
Biscayne National Park along the way. Eric and I had gone there about 6 years ago, but the boys had never been. Since we were in the area, we couldn't resist the opportunity to get the boys some new stamps for their National Park Passports. However, due to warnings of the Zika Virus, we did not stay long. Instead, the boys ate a packed lunch, we watched some rangers do some net fishing and then we checked out the Visitor Center before getting the stamps and continuing our way North.

When we were done at Biscayne National Park, we continued our way up to Fort Lauderdale with a stop at Hollywood Beach along the way for the boys to have a little more at the ocean before we had to head home.

| I attempted to make a little sea turtle. He was much cuter before this, but his more proportional head broke off before we got a picture. |

Video: Catch with Jesus
Eric and Asher invented a game. They threw a shell into the ocean and then watched until Jesus "threw it back" and the shell made its way back to shore.
After a couple of hours of fun at the beach, we headed a mile West to our hotel for the night. The hotel was the one we stayed at the first night but a MUCH different experience. Although we really had no complaints form the first night we'd spent there, this time when we went to our room (on a different floor) we were immediately greeted with an overpowering smell of mold. I could feel my lungs seizing up as soon as we walked in and we all knew there was NO way were were sleeping in that room. Eric went down and got us a different room, which had a powerful smell of cleaning solutions but could be
sufferable survivable. We unpacked or stuff and then my mom and I took the boys to the pool while Eric and my dad got some food for us for dinner.
 |
| ALL week long the boys fought over who got to press the elevator buttons wherever we went. There was one time at the hotel in Key Largo that Asher and Eric took the stairs while Avery, my mom and I took the elevator. The moment Avery realized that Asher wasn't with was completely priceless! He looked around and then happily pressed the button to call the elevator. When the doors opened, he ran inside, looked around again and then started mumbling about Asher and the elevator as he pressed the button on the interior to bring us up to our floor! ;) |
We had a little fun at the pool/hot tub and then headed back to our room for Chipotle (for the adults) and Lunchables for the boys. Then it was time for bed and again it did not bode well for the hotel. The boys had to sleep on the pull-out couch but when we pulled out the mattress we found a large blood stain! I was completely repulsed but unfortunately the hotel was full and there was nothing they could do for. They didn't even offer us a discount or refund on our room! Instead they gave us a pile of blankets to cover the mattress with. I can't say I'll ever stay at that hotel again, but we survived the night and it did make it a little easier to head home the next day!
