Labor Day Weekend 2018

This year we closed out another summer on the lake at Eric's parents' house and since the boys' daycare was closed on Thursday and Friday we headed over there late Thursday morning.  We arrived at the 'cottage' on Thursday afternoon, enjoyed some time visiting/playing with Grammy and Gramps and then took a boat ride to the channel store for a pizza dinner before bedtime.

On Friday we enjoyed a relaxing/lazy day at the lake...and basically this low-key approach to the day continued throughout the weekend as we rested up for the chaos of the school year ahead and soaked up our last few moments of carefree summer.

In the afternoon, Eric and I enjoyed a solo 'date' together to Meijer and when we returned the boys were enjoying project/craft time with Gramps and Grammy.  Asher was working on making a boat for Emma (who had no desire to ride in it, so the boat quickly became Asher's) with Gramps and Avery was exploring his inner artist as he painted with Grammy.

That evening, after some s'mores and a Gramps story around the campfire, we all headed off to bed for a good night of rest.

Well...the boys enjoyed a good night of rest.  I couldn't sleep, so instead I got up before the sun came up, cozied myself into a lawn chair and peacefully watched the sun rise over the lake.

Later that day we largely continued with the laziness and relaxation, but the boys also took a little time from the day to put some work into the tree fort.

That evening we walked down the lake to a friend of Grammy and Gramps' house for a pork butt party...yep, we all enjoyed some some slow-roasted pork butt and BBQ sauce!  :)  While we were there Eric's sister and her family arrived and joined in on the dinner.  Then the kids all headed back to the house for a little more fun in the lake before bedtime.

On Saturday, the cousins had fun playing together and building together and they (along with the big guys) made a lot of progress on the tree fort getting the floor platform up.

On Sunday, it was our last full day at the cottage and while I enjoyed a much-needed afternoon nap, the boys headed over to the marina to take advantage of its annual Labor Day party.

When they got back to the house, Eric had them take a little much-needed rest as well.

Then that night after dinner and before bed we headed over to Sunset Cove to enjoy one last ice cream boat ride of the summer.

Finally, it was Monday again and that meant it was time to head home.  Eric and I worked on loading up the van while we let the boys have one last summer swim in the lake for the year.  Then it was time to say our goodbyes and head back to Kenosha.
