Wisconsin Vacation Day 5: Not Beach Weather

Day 5 was the worst day weather-wise of our vacation.  It was not beach weather, but still was a pretty nice summer day.  Since it was cloudy and cooler for most of the day, we did our best to find fun activities to do without hitting up the beach (the one thing that Asher REALLY wanted to do).
My little alarm clock.  Rise & Shine Mommy, it's daylight outside!

Avery kickin' back on a walk with Grandma

After a yummy pancake breakfast, we decided to go for a walk on one of Devil's Lake easy trails near the lake.  It was a good time, when we got to a point that the stroller could no longer make the journey, Eric and I turned back with it and Avery while Grandma, Papa and Asher continued on.  We gave them an hour or so as we waited at the lakefront (not really knowing how/when we were supposed to meet up with them) and then went out to find them...which we did, on the opposite side of the lake.  At this point, it was lunch time and they all happily piled in the van to head back to our campsite.

Avery fell asleep on our walk back to the lakefront.

After lunch and nap time, we decided to head to the Dells to do some mini golf.  As we made our way there, it started to rain, but since it was a light rain and still quite warm out, we decided to continue on anyway.  When we got to Pirates Cove we piled out of the van and as I was getting Asher out I realized a big parenting mistake: He had no shoes!  We had all gotten into the van and I never even thought to make sure Asher had shoes on...and apparently he didn't think to tell me that he didn't.  Since we were going to be outside, we decided to let him play barefoot (while I felt like a failure!).
Eric teaching Asher how to putt.

Asher did surprisingly well golfing with us and seemed to really enjoy himself!  He would putt once from the front end and then usually he would pick up his ball and put it right next to the hole and then putt it in!

At the last hole, Asher picked up his ball from where it had gone after his first putt and went to put it next to the hole as he had done at the previous 17 greens.  When he went to set it down though he realized that this hole had no bottom and he did not want to put his ball in it, nor did he want us to let our balls go it.  He cried and protested, but eventually got over it.  Poor guy was just having too much fun!  ;)

Before we left Pirates Cove, we had to get a few pictures...

When we were done at Pirates Cove, we decided to go out for some dinner.  We had a problem though: Still no shoes for Asher.  We weren't sure if it would really be a big deal for anyone, but rather than chance it we decided to head over to Walgreens to get a pair of flip-flops for him.  They only had one pair that were even close to his size, and while they did the trick, they were small enough that we could not buckle the straps.  Asher wore them to dinner and will never wear them again...they will get to wait for Avery's feet to grow.

We decided to go to Sprechers for dinner and had a yummy dinner of ribs for Dad, Mom and I and fish for Eric (like I said, Eric is always the odd man out...although this time Asher also was different with his cheeseburger).  Avery (who was an eating machine the entire week of our vacation) was REALLY hungry that night for dinner and continued to pack away food.  Every time I would break between giving him bits of food, he would growl at me.  Then, he realized that he could reach my plate and began just pulling things off it as he pleased.  When I had finally decided he'd had enough (he really never stops wanting more, we just eventually stop feeding him), I pulled him from the table and we waited to pay the bill.  Although he is a definite momma's boy and can be a little shy, he is also a total flirt and as we waited for the bill he decided to make friends with the table behind us smiling at them and blowing kisses the whole time!

Finally, we arrived back "home" and it was time to head to bed again to rest up for one last full-fun day ahead.  As we got ready though, Eric and Asher decided to team up on Avery for a tickle war...poor guy never saw it comin'!  :)
